Okay, I'll go first.
[gush]I love everybody's posts and I'm really super excited about this, even though I feel a little self-conscious that a lot of my internet heroes are probably reading this and thinking "garsh, is she dumb or something" even though I know that that's probably just my insecurity talking but anyway, I think we have a really interesting cast of characters and I can't wait to see what Mr. Sapiens throws our way.[/gush]

How would you like us to deal with skill checks and the like? This thread or the main one? Elios would like to make a Bardic Knowledge check to see if any of what we have been told sounds in any way familiar to him.

We are supposed the a team that has worked together before, I assume I know you all superficially at least like coworkers. Albeit ones who have shared danger and hardships so I am going with my military mentality and treating you like I would people I have been to combat with. Once you get really scared and almost die together you end up dispensing with a lot of pleasanry and tend to share a lot about yourselves too.
There is a study about why soldiers do that, it came to a sort of conclusion that they want to die with people who know them well so they don't feel alone. This applies for units that start as one and perfom together regularly.
However, the opposite is true if one is integrated into a team that already has shared those dangers - then you have to be the odd man out for a while till you prove you have the same ability to deal with hardship as the veterans. In that case they don't want to get to know you becasue you might die right away. If they get emptionally invested right away thats another shitty feeling to go through.
Watch some good soldier movies and see the relationships if ya want an example. The architypes are prety close to the real dynamic.

Like I told my daughter when I let her start playing - relax and have fun its pretend sweetie there is no wrong way to do it.
I started a solo game for her about a month ago, we are having a blast. We play every Sunday AM from about 0800-1200 since that's the wifes sleep in day. She's an elf druid of course like all little girls who play (a lost princess to boot - lol). She has a lot of animal "freinds" and really she spends most of the sessions grooming them and wandering the woods and trying to help animals.
The main antagonists therefore is a group of hunters and trappers from the "outpost". She is still in the "what's happening to all the creatures" phase. Eventually, she will confront them and have to fight, but she will have a mandate from the Sheriff to bring em in alive to limit the human on elf violence. Then I'll have to think of something else.

I'd check with Mr. DM on that one. He should be the one to do the actual rolling and then just tell us what the results are.
BTW - I like the way everyone is starting to come together on this. This is going to be fun, I think!

I'm going to see what everyone else does for a while. For instance, I though perhaps my char's tiefling physiognomy would be off-putting to some, but Grak ( is that his name?) felt comfortable enough to chat with me. For me, the longevity of the game is everything, my own personal sensibilities are secondary. It's a side-benefit that I get to explore a character; the primary benefit is collaborating with other cool people on a good story.
Can I get an answer here as to how we deal with posts? In order always, or whenever-anyone-feels-like-posting? (unless it's combat)

Its usually easy to see the tempo, whenever is mostly fine except for when there is a multi character excahnge say when we all need to respond or answer something before we move on.
I usually go with the philosophy of talking is fine almost any time in any order but when you take an action that someone else might react to - even outside combat wait till people can move physically if they want. Wait but only within reason is the best policy. Once we get the tempo of the game figured out we'll know how long to wait. I bet the posting tempo will be more than once a day in the game.
Like say yout character walks to the ships railing and looks forlorn staring seaword. I might then walk up to you and pat you on the back or pull you up a chair (since you are a lady) and do or say something. So if you post again before me I have no chance to react. But most people can wing it fine I can just cach up.
Just have fun but remember ocasionally someone will post while you are composing yours so be prepared to change them sometimes. Don't happen a lot but it can throw of some contenuity soometimes. Just look to see what you missed while you were typing. No biggie!
As for Gak talking to you - well, brooding, evil, good, bad, happy or sad, you are on his team and he will talk to anyone. With a wisdom of 6 he's not real astute at picking up who wants to be left alone. He's no social genius lets say.
Besides as I said in my write up, he views almost he whole team as a leader since he doesn't do much if left to his own devices but drink fight and well - <looks down shyly> you know! He is even more dense than the ogre!
He would also consider your character to be pretty because just like with Button any female is pretty to him, he loves their softness and such. You would smell purdy too with the spices.
If it is part of your concept to make her a loner and absolute anti-social, I can just as easily make him uneasy around you and aviod you. I can't make him afraid of you for obvious reasons (see his write up) he's got an animalistc fight or flight outlook on life. He attacks a percieved threat if he can - if he's obviously weaker he'll run.
Anyways, we are supposed to have prior associations with one another so discourse is an expectation of mine. You might even like him becasue - he doesn't care about anyones past. He is all here and now - so much so he won't likely remember what you just said to him.
Let me know how you want to play it - she can even treat him with sarcastic ire for comedic entertainment he won't care. He doesn't gert subtleness. I kinda made him to be the one people made fun of and bossed around and took their frustrations out on. As long as its not making fun of his height. Not a good idea!

Hey, guys--I found this thread, but not after I responded to the other one! 8thDS; I think that it would be better, if you want to do something like that, to put it in the regular thread. You can type your IC response, and then make a little line of minus signs or something, and then any OOC but in-game commentary, like "I want to make a Bardic Knowledge check, result - xxx from whatever dice server, etc." kinda thing. If you make the request here, I will probably respond to the other thread before knowing that you wanted to make a check; that way, I can integrate your desired checks into my replies.
You can also PM me with any requests of actions too--I think the circumstances will probably be obvious when one is preferable to another--I hope so anyway.
Anyway; yeah, Bardic Knowledge. I'll roll for you and go edit the post a little bit later today; now that I've made the post, I have to look into some actual work for the morning...

I've posted a revised version of Elios in the Character thread. PCGen is still screwing something up, though, and he's got a bunch of skills that are wrong. I'm going to have to figure out whats up. I'm sure it has something to do with the equipment list vs. his weight allowance.

Hey, Wyn, just as a side note, Tagar is the half-ogre, and Gak is the half-orc. They are each half of something, but apparently Tagar got the bigger half!

Just so y'all know, I've made my character's default stance (i.e., watchful, alert, not so much with the talking) line up with my posting pace, which is glacial.
He's not ignoring you - he's just quiet. Heh.

Nothing wrong with that, I think we all know who the chatterboxes are going to be.
What would be interesting, though, is you posting now and then about the physical behavior of your character. Something about actions speaking louder than words, yadda yadda..

Yea I read all the action from the Am yesterday and realized I was missing out on a lot since I post mostly at night. You guys can assume Gak is just standing around mostly staring into space and "taking things in" lol. Not that they get processed but they go in!

Colors! I understand using colored text for speech, and think it's a good idea and all that. We're going to need to make certain that the colors we're using are good for everyone's board skin, though. (I know someone said something about this in the IC thread, so I brought it over here.)
I used Cyan today, and Wyn said it's hard to read on her skin (which has a white background). So, I'll find another color.
Citizen Mane, that dark blue you're using is almost invisible on my screen, because I've got a navy background. I could change, but I don't wanna. <grins> Please?

I was waiting for that to come up. I use I-Bulletin (White), so a lot of the lighter colors don't show up at all, which made navy pretty appealing. I'll try and dig up something else for my next post, I guess.

Yeah, I justify it by saying that giving what I can see of Gripir's attitude, appearance and what he actually said, he'd be unlikely to get more than a grunt or a stare from the Captain anyway.
