Just out of curiosity, most people here have seen Middleman, right? It was a truly brilliant, funny, fun nerd-filled fest of a show that was cancelled way too soon because it happened to be on the wrong network for that crowd.
Yep, that was a fun show.

I'm not sure any network would have worked for it. I love it and bought the DVDs but it has been a hard sell to get others to try it.

RP1? Definitely interested in seeing that.

The inside and contents of his van/storage container (I forget which it was in the book) doesn't look near dirty/beat up enough for the kind of dystopian future the book painted, though.

Incidentally, I noticed the other day that the lasertag and sorta-arcade place that has my local DDR machine now has what looks like a vintage Joust machine. I'll have to sink a few tokens into that sometime.
    Spring spirit-dancer, nimble and thin
I will leap like Coyote when I go
Tireless entrancer, lend me your skin
I will run like the gray wolf when I go

I will climb the rise at daybreak, I will kiss the sky at noon
Raise my yearning voice at midnight to my mother in the moon
I will make the lay of long defeat and draw the chorus slow
I'll send this message down the wire
Hope that someone wise is listening

Fairly sure it's a storage container in a stack of storage containers turned into housing.

And you're right, it does look like his things are in a little bit too good of condition for the sort of dystopia the author was going for. Still, looking forward.

If you ever have to argue climate science with an idiot:

"And the nations were enraged, and Your wrath came, and the time came for the dead to be judged, and the time to reward Your bond-servants the prophets and the saints and those who fear Your name, the small and the great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth."
    ~ Revelations 11:18.

I still have no idea what this is supposed to be about.

If Google Image Search is to be believed, it's a still from the trailer of the movie Ready Player One. Or some such.

I'd have linked the trailer if there was one; this is just the first still they've released.

I am very psyched for Atomic Blonde coming out in another week or so. Watching some YouTube videos there was a commercial preceding one that was about Charlize Theron training and doing her fight sequences, and I ended up watching the whole thing instead of clicking through the ad at 5 seconds. Looks like it's going to be good.

I'll remember this the next time you howl for the blood of members of daesh.

I mean, he's not wrong, but the same could be said about basically every war movie that doesn't focus on redeeming the antagonists. We all know that those men in the snappy Hugo Boss uniforms aren't all monsters; they're just Germans. But not every movie about WW2 needs to be about the resistance against the Nazis from within Germany.

Only Luke, Yoda and Obi-wan gave a shit about the redemption of Dark Vader. I'm sure the rest of the Rebellion would be happy to kill him given the opportunity. It was their personal relationship, not some overarching moral dilemma about redemption, that guided their behavior towards Vader.

That said, I certainly wouldn't oppose a plot in The Last Jedi about Finn trying to recruit double agents inside the First Order, and in fact I think I might have heard that that's even Finn's plot.

When I saw the first Star Wars movie, at age 10, I remember assuming that the stormtroopers were robots/droids. If this new universe had intelligent, conversant androids who seemed to have emotions like C3PO, then why not soldiers.

Admittedly, on viewing the movie again not so much later I guess my young mind overlooked the fact that Luke and Han were able to put on stormtrooper armor, but that still could have been possible even if the troopers were robots. As Eldorian notes, there are some movies where we are meant to think of the bad guys as faceless fodder for the heroes, and some where they are humanized. It is interesting that they waited until the 7th movie to humanize them, or even to show the face of a trooper.
