    Just played Quantum Break.

I think the story is great. A really good time travel story. (There are of course things about its "science" is that are questionable, but it manages to be very consistent and logical usually.)
The gameplay is... workable. Neat ideas. But ultimately, this could have been a walking simulator type game and I would have enjoyed it just as much.

The strength of the story is basically that it has a very strict rule about time travel - time is rigid. You can't change things when you travel back in time. Everything that you saw happen will happen exactly like that, and your attempts to avert something might actually be what is leading to it happening in the first place. And in addition, you can't time travel to a time before the time machine started working. (At least one hypothesis on potential time travel works exactly like that. Wormholes could theoretically enable time travel, if the two ends travel at different speeds, they would be subject to time dilation and it could allow you to travel back and forth in time - but only to a time the wormhole exists.)

    Spoiler:

It took me a bit of thinking and reading up theories, but I realize that the ending is not really the ending of the story.

Paul Serene seemed convinced the total time freeze would happen around 2021. But it seems to happen sooner, as the game played in the present (2016? 2014? Not entirely sure off-hand). This is a certain contradiction. But if you be a good collector and collected all the clues, reports and what not, and finally get to the end, a different picture appears.

Apparently, yes, there was a time fracture happening then, caused by the second time machine. And that was averted with the device the protagonists brother made. But... that wasn't the time fracture Paul saw.
Martin Hatch reveals himself in one story as a kind of "evolved time traveller"; and he is sabotaging plans to avert the final collapse of time. And he's alive (again) at the end of the story, and trying to convince the protagonist to work for Paul's company. And he might have something to offer for him that Jack can't resist - saving Beth. THis could be Hatch's way to repeat the results of the second time machine and lead to a new time collapse... and whether this can be averted? (I think that might still be possible - maybe the collapse can indeed be undone, and Paul's lifeboat project wasn't hopeless.

Well maybe there will be a sequel at some point.

Maybe a bit of a weakness:
One thing that is confusing me a bit is how Paul - as non-scientist - managed to get the second time machine build. It's a bit unclear who helped him there and who devised the plans.

The base song list in RB4 is very weak. They make all their money with DLC.

I know you're not a fan of Rock Paper Shotgun due to the culture wars or whatever but this is a fascinating, in depth interview with Pondsmith.

Trigger Warning: It comes from a website you might find problematic

Less the "war" and more the stances they took during the beginning of the conflict. They turned me off long before I even knew what #GG was about or what shenanigans some of it's bloggers were up to.

Good article, comments were turned on.

Indeed a few of the comments were as good as the article.

If you're an amazon prime member, they have Nintendo switches in stock at the moment. Emphasis on moment.
