He's discounted it to $300, for 5 hours, so $60 / hour. If you have 6 players that's $10 per player per hour which is not *totally* outrageous. It would get expensive if you did it week in and week out. But for a one-shot, if the guy is actually a kick-ass DM and did a good job? Sure, why not.
    Still excited about 4th Edition!

    Is anybody that good though?

There are people I pay a lot more than $10 an hour to game with.

Going to Camp NCGD last year cost me around $2000. Let's say three four-hour sessions over four days makes 48 hours of games. That's $40 an hour.

I wouldn't pay that if it weren't for the people there.

I ran a LARP in a nightclub where I got paid $1 per person per night. But I had 200-300 people per night, so that made it worth it
    I wouldn't even censor you.

Similar to Hypersmurf -- if you factor up my total costs to attend Origins and game for X number of hours, I'm sure it's costing me more than $10 per hour. But it's worth it because of how much fun I have.

Huh...I've never done that sort of cost to value analysis of my RPG time. I'm suddenly curious about my own ratios...

It's not something I can do every week or even, frankly, every year. But it's money well-spent when I do.

I wouldn't gamble that much money on games with strangers, though. So for me it's definitely a case of 'There are people who are that good".

If you're too fucking stupid to understand the question, then don't try to fucking answer it. I swear to fuck I wish I could punch people through the internet.

I have a good friend who breaks down all entertainment value propositions against a trip to the movies. Of course, he built his own (super nice) home theater a few years back, so he's still using 2005ish prices. I think he uses $10 per hour as the baseline for "worth it". It might be $20, I can't remember, but it took into account popcorn and whatnot. He doesn't exactly sweat gaming books -- if he's going to GM; as a player, he doesn't get much mileage out of most books.
    This is not a signature.

Tiny fucking pebbles, dude. It's not like you're throwing boulders around.
you suddenly see a light, behind it is a glow, too bright to see, it comes toward you and part of it breaks off, and hits the ground near you, All magic and magic items cease to function and you all take 50 million divine damage ignoring damage reduction and immunities. Also you area all disintegrated.
