It wasn't fair.

"Surely that's not your husband?"

Ricardo Murcielago threw an exasperated look at the woman clutching sheets around herself.

"'Off to Mnar,' you said. 'Secret mission,' you said."

She just shook her head. Ricardo tried to remember how far down the street was below the window on this side of the mansion. Possibly too far to jump. He was still considering when the door burst open and a pair of watchmen faced him.

"Lord Xian?"

Ricardo frowned.

"Do I LOOK like a Lord Xian?"

To his surprise, Lady Xian pointed and snarled, "Yes, that's my husband! Take him away!"

"Hubba hubba wha?"

It just wasn't fair. THEY were supposed to be scamming HER. Ricardo shook his head in disbelief of the treachery of some people, refusing to be taken in by a perfectly good con. He didn't waste his breath in discussion, though; the jump through the window had given him a headstart, but these guardsmen were being well-paid to pursue him, that was obvious.

Across the street, Grey exchanged bemused looks with Carlotta as Ricardo toppled from the window, in his sword-belt and one boot and nothing else.

"Where is he... that's not the plan!"

More became clear as the guardsmen burst out of the front door moments later.

"I'll run interference for your brother," Grey told her, taking on Ricardo's voice and rapidly discarding clothing. By the time the last stitch hit the floor, Carlotta found herself face-to-face with her brother in all his naked glory. "It's on you to salvage something from this mess!"

"That's a sight, I didn't need...." mumbled Carlotta under her breath.

And with that, the false Ricardo burst from the alley to scamper off in the opposite direction to that taken by the original, sowing confusion and chaos into the pursuit...

As soon as the guards were out of sight, Carlotta sped across the alley and into the front door of the Xian house. Taking the stairs two at a time, she burst into Lady Xian's room.

Still naked, the startled expression on Lady Xian's face melted into a smile.

"Everything going according to plan?" she purred.

"Absolutely!" laughed Carlotta. "Talk about a sorry excuse for a con artist! He'll be regretting it when he's captured by the guards."

"Whatever can I do to repay you for your help in this matter?" asked the Lady, her voice laced with suggestion.

Carlotta grinned. She was going to be in for a big pay day. It was a shame she couldn't clue the boys into the plan earlier, but she knew they'd laugh about it later when she brought them the priceless contents of the Lord's safe.

I didn't notice it the first time around, but I like how Grey's dialogue color changed as he changed personas.

By the way, this exercise was supposed to just be a quick activity to give us something to work with when roleplaying the characters right off the bat. If instead it turns into something that's a stumbling block, or causes us to delay getting started, I'm OK with moving on directly to the game.

I'd like to get them all done by tomorrow. I've got our big holiday party for my work department all afternoon tomorrow, so I won't be online much at all, but after that, I'd like to get this party started.

How can they know that? Ovi can't insert himself into BeerRun's story until BeerRun writes his story, so Ovi meeting the deadline is entirely dependent on BeerRun!

Yeah, been busy with work and family matters. Sorry for the delay. hopefully the way will be clear soon... will have character in around an hour (would be sooner but I'm helping my son with math at the same time.....)
