    Regina Spektor: That Time

It's not an actual video, but a film school project. She needs to make more actual videos for more of her songs.

Yesterday morning my grandmother passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer. It prompted me to listen to the song A Tout Le Monde (Set Me Free) by Megadeth (with guest vocals by the beautiful and talented Cristina Scabbia), a song Dave Mustaine wrote for all of his fans who have had to suffer the death of a loved one.

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgvjijAZe6Y[/ame]

The chorus of the song, " tout le monde, tous mes amis, je vous aime, je dois partir", translates into English as: "To everyone, to all my friends, I love you, I must leave."
"Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing."

I ordered a CD - because I was going to add this to my 'mix', but it didn't get here in time and I had to settle for leaving this one out.

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FxSM88H-G4[/ame]

Also, this one wouldn't record for some reason and ended up being left off of the mix as well but I love it. - PS it's not really five minutes - its more like 3 - the rest is dead air??!??

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dp9Tpj88-g[/ame]

And the last one that ended up left off because I couldn't find it.. so sad - but I'm listening to them anyway

Presently I'm in love with Robert Earl Keen. I've got the Gringo Honeymoon CD in my car, and I think this is my favorite track from it.

What's with me and British MCs? I dunno, but this guy has an awesomely unique flow, and the production by Dan le Sac is effing amazing. The album, Angles, is definitely worth a listen.

I saw PT Walkley on tour with someone else, and promptly bought both his albums. I particularly like his story album Mr. Macy Wakes Alone. Check out the song Audrey Macy on YouTube -- it's really fun.

In addition, my favorite album from last year was the Flobots Fight With Tools. If you'd told me a year ago that I'd love what's basically socially progressive hip-hop, I would have laughed at you. Who knew? The whole album is good, but if you haven't heard it already here's the song Handlebars.

Dude. We should hang out more.

If you like Flobots, you might like Blue Scholars, another prog group. Here's one of their more upbeat songs, North by Northwest

For the last couple of days, I've been listening to one of Metallica's lesser-known songs called Low Man's Lyric from their album Reload. I'd never heard it before due to the fact that it comes from what is considered to be one of Metallica's worst albums, so I was taken by surprise at just how haunting it was (it still gives me cold chills every time I listen to it). The song is very different from typical Metallica fare; it's a slow, melancholy ballad that includes what sounds like Irish flutes and bagpipes. Low Man's Lyric is about a homeless heroin addict who is dying, so he writes a letter to his estranged family begging them to forgive him for all the mistakes he's made. There's no music video for it, but the song itself is on YouTube:
