    * Small 'l' liberal.

That whole 'no selling to out of towners' comes from states with tighter laws complaining that 'loose as a goose' states are making their own personal laws invalid. Washington has some tighter laws, so of course... they seek to protect their looser lawed neighbors from people buying guns in... hmmm.

    I guess they're protecting California?
Another thing is that most people who don't live up here have this view that states like WA and OR are "liberal" or "blue", when it's a veeerry small part of the state (west of the I-5 corridor) that makes it show up on the political radar that way. The whopping majority of the geographical state, i.e., the other 80% or so of it, is totally different, tending to be more rural, small-town, isolated, etc. Eastern WA and eastern OR vibe very much more like rural Idaho or Montana, but since the population centers tend to sway the votes....

Dark the stars and dark the moon
Hush the night and the morning loon
Tell the horses and beat on your drum
Gone their master, gone their son.

Dark the oceans, dark the sky
Hush the whales and the ocean tide
Tell the salt marsh and beat on your drum
Gone their master, gone their son.

Gah. I hate it when my checkcard gets compromised Odd purchases started to show up today (and they were purchased today) and I haven't been out anywhere (been sick) except to the bank to straighten it out.

I know it had to be a card skimmer. I purchased some gas downtown and not at my usual local places, that has to be it.

Madness does not always howl. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "Hey, is there room in your head for one more?"

I is before E except after C, then it's chaos man, mass chaos! Letters coming together into words, but then you go English and they put U's in places that just shouldn't go there... AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

My sanity left town along time ago and didn't leave a forwarding address. It's not missed.

Smart people never use debit cards at a gas pump or other common spots vulnerable to skimmers, that way their bank accounts don't get drained. Always use a credit card instead.

Well, I caught it quick. Or rather Bank of America did. From now on, I'll purchase gas in the store. Freaking thieves. May their dicks fall off and their vajajas be full of sand and caltrops.

BOA might have it's problems, but it's fraud detection and the way they resolve it is excellent.

I might not be the brightest bulb in the patch, but I do learn from my mistakes.

It feels like both sides are arming. I see great division in this country, with neither side willing to compromise, with everyone getting more and more radicalized. With the right stimulus, this could lead to some very ugly outcomes.

Stats say Republicans are buying more weapons than Dems. So the feeling is wrong.

Thanks for the answer. I think it's been much worse in the past, not counting that recent unpleasantness, of course.

Is that what they're calling the Obama presidency?

Once we get Trump out of office, things will go back to normalish. Hopefully the next president is a moderate.

Trump showed Republican politicians they can win the primaires and the presidency on racism and fearmongering. This is the new normal as long as people vote for Republicans and keep the party relevent.

Heh, nope, just another of those Southern euphemisms for the War of Northern Aggression. You know, so as to not have to accept any responsibility?

It was BS. Every single argument for secession that the South made traces directly back to slavery. Economy: their entire economy was based on slavery. States rights: they wanted runaway slaves returned to them, and they wanted the Senate to be split between free and slave, at least. Then their statements before and during the Civil War were completely about slavery, pretty much nothing else. In fact, their constitution was practically the same as that of the Union, with the addition of slavery being explicit. And, the secession statements that were given state that slavery was the reason for secession.

Taking statements made after the Civil War at face value is stupid. These people had lost their attempt at secession. Their words were likely to be covering themselves so that they could re-assimilate into the US.
