    reveal's Daily Trivia 12.26.18

    1) In a car's side-view mirror, why do objects appear to be farther away than they are? Answered

Because side-view mirrors are convex mirrors, which have wider fields of view than flat mirrors and therefore reflect more in a smaller space.

    2) What was the name of the medicinal cure-alls that Portuguese Jesuits made in the 17th century?

    3) What distinguishes polydactyl cats? Answered

They have more toes than standard cats. Writer Ernest Hemingway had a special fondness for polydactyl cats.

    4) What movie is based on the short story "The Greatest Gift" by Philip Van Doren Stern?

    5) Who commissioned life-size gingerbread sculptures for royal feasts?

    6) What is the name for a diamond that is flawless and without inclusions?

    Correct on 1 and 3!

    1) Because side-view mirrors are convex mirrors, which have wider fields of view than flat mirrors and therefore reflect more in a smaller space.

    3) They have more toes than standard cats. Writer Ernest Hemingway had a special fondness for polydactyl cats.

It's... what? "Flawless" means "without inclusions".

If they mean Flawless and Internally Flawless... okay... but really the term for "flawless and without inclusions" is "doesn't actually exist in nature".

    Do they want "VS1"?

Yeah, the thread was deleted and I didn't remember who answered what. Here are the other answers including the correct ones answered above.

    1) Because side-view mirrors are convex mirrors, which have wider fields of view than flat mirrors and therefore reflect more in a smaller space.
    2) Goa stones, named for their origin in Goa, India. They were sometimes stored in elaborate gold and silver containers.
    3) They have more toes than standard cats. Writer Ernest Hemingway had a special fondness for polydactyl cats.
    4) Itís A Wonderful Life. The store was inspired by a dream the author had.
    5) Queen Elizabeth I. Some say they were the first gingerbread men.
    6) A paragon. Diamonds are graded by cut, color, clarity, and carat Ė the four Cís. Graff Diamonds owns a famous example of a paragon known as the Paragon diamond, one of the largest white diamonds in the world.

I had said Elizabeth the first time the thread was up, as I knew she was fond of it (especially since she had a serious sweet tooth). Though 'gyngourbrede' in period was way different than it is today, being made mostly of spices, breadcrumbs and honey.

Dark the stars and dark the moon
Hush the night and the morning loon
Tell the horses and beat on your drum
Gone their master, gone their son.

Dark the oceans, dark the sky
Hush the whales and the ocean tide
Tell the salt marsh and beat on your drum
Gone their master, gone their son.
