    reveal's Daily Trivia 11.20.18

    Thanksgiving edition!

    1) In genetics, what is the term for an alternative form of a gene? Answered

Allele. Alleles can either be dominant or recessive.

    2) Name the former pop singer who became the mayor of Palm Springs, California, in 1988. Answered

Sonny Bono. Several years later, he was elected to Congress.

    3) In what country can you find a city named Batman? Answered

Turkey. The city probably takes its name from the Batman River, which in turn is named for a mountain known as Bati Raman. The mayor of Turkey’s Batman once threatened to sue Warner Bros.

    4) What voice actor served as the voice behind Yoda, Miss Piggy, and Fozzie Bear, among others? Answered

Frank Oz. As a young man, he met Jim Henson at a puppeteering conference, after which he joined the Muppets team.

    5) Name the 9 countries the Amazon River passes through. Answered

Bolivia, Brazil, Columbia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Venezuela, Suriname, and French Guiana.

    6) After John F. Kennedy's death, his wife, Jacqueline, requested that cadets from what country participate in the funeral? Answered

Ireland. The president had seen a funeral drill performed by Irish cadets a few months earlier and been impressed, so Jackie asked that they perform it at his burial ceremony. Twenty-six of them traveled to Washington to do so.

    7) What country singer was offered a spot on the Philadelphia Phillies, but decided to pursue music instead, recording songs like "Guess My Eyes Were Bigger Than My Heart," To See My Angel Cry," and "I See the Want To in Your Eyes"?

Dark the stars and dark the moon
Hush the night and the morning loon
Tell the horses and beat on your drum
Gone their master, gone their son.

Dark the oceans, dark the sky
Hush the whales and the ocean tide
Tell the salt marsh and beat on your drum
Gone their master, gone their son.

Really? No one? Sigh... no one know geography anymore I guess...

Okay, since the crazy questions says "9" countries I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume it wants the countries all the hundreds of tributaries start in or pass through... so alphabetically:

Bolivia, Brazil, Columbia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Venezuela.

Hmmm. That's only seven. There's probably a "French Something-or-Other" I'm forgetting. Maybe Chile or Paraguay? I don't think the 'Amazon' goes that far south.

Well, I did study a kind of Geography at University ..., it would be very bad if I couldn't name the only two other countries in that part of the world especially as one is a former Dutch colony

    7. I will guess Trace Adkins because he is a big beefy kind of guy but I don't know his repertoire well enough to know if he did any of those songs.

I flew over the Amazon delta at sunset on my way to Brasilia. The orange rays of the sun reflected off the meandering channels. It is one of the most beautiful things I've seen in my life. I watched until it disappeared from view.
