We're All Going To Die Because Idiots Rule the World

IPCC 1.5℃ report: here’s what the climate science says

The world’s climate scientists have spoken: if we want to limit human-induced global warming to 1.5℃ we probably can. But it will be tough, given where we’re starting from.
    Fuck you're stupid.

This die was cast a few decades ago, unless we wanted to move to pre-industrial tech levels across the globe overnight (and even then, reinforcing would continue). For most of our lifetimes the only feasible method to deal with CO2 has been massive carbon sink initiatives. There's no way China and India would have stopped trying to catch up with the West.

Climate change is pretty much accepted by the scientific community, as is that it is man-made. These specific predictions may not be, but the predictions get much better as time goes by, both because the models become better and because the computers that the models are run on are better.

Yes, climate change is widely accepted. The definition of climate change is not as agreed upon as this statement implies.

That man has an impact is also widely agreed. What exact percentage of that impact is not as agreed as this statement implies.

In short, it's correct to say that it's widely accepted that climate change exists and that it's man-made. However, the trick here is that what climate change is defined as is a lot fuzzier and that the man-made part is rather dependent on that definition. However, these two things are not explained/discussed by those that wish you to think that it's widely agreed that climate change is bad and can be fixed by correcting other people's behavior, usually through massive government initiatives and controls.

I'm considered a virulent denier, despite the fact I readily accept that we're in a warming trend that will continue and that man has a large part (at least a third, I stop at 2/3rds) of that. This is because I think the warming will be moderate (ie, in the range predicted by observational studies, not computer models) and that the impact of man-kind is largely through land use changes rather than CO2 (although CO2 has it's impacts). And, the big reason I'm a filthy denier, is that I also think that the usually promoted methods for mitigation are short-sighted if not downright dangerous.

I'm going to try for once to be serious and genuine and I hope you can do the same in return by answering my question honestly: do you really believe all of that?

Objectively even if all of the climate "science" was true, the proposed "solutions" do absolutely nothing to affect it. Nations such as the US that are taking steps to reduce overall emissions are supposed to make concessions and pay billions while countries such as China and India that are going in the opposite direction and speeding us faster towards our doom just get a pass. That doesn't make sense. The earth's climate changes and that is a fact. We cannot change that by throwing money at it any more than we can start a worldwide campaign to change the solar cycle.

With regards to our environment, there is plenty that we can do to improve things that involve everyone pitching in and doing their part, not sending billions of dollars to the UN.

Actually, China is more active than the US when it comesto reducing emissions. Stop watching right wing propaganda sites.

When non-vegetarians scream to the world that everyone else needs to change their behavior to address global warming but they don't, I tend to roll my eyes.

When you guys demonstrate you're willing to give up something you value (meat) to address the problem (and it absolutely does relate), then I will consider giving up something I value (money, and my car, and my air conditioning) to address the problem.

Until then, eat your fucking bacon wrapped burger in that glass house and stop throwing stones.

The IPCC is a forum for finding the conservative prediction that the great majority of climate scientists can agree on. They're now saying we're doomed in 25 years unless we implement drastic measures, and here you are, pretending to be the reasonable ones. We still have time to do plenty, but it won't be done, mostly because of people like you.

Your children will die cursing your names.
