Thread: Iron First Season II

    Iron First Season II

So I binged watched it this weekend, obviously enjoyed it. It was tighter script with the 10-episode format, the fight sequences were well choreographed and there was some good character development. I thought Mary Walker was a great addition to the Marvel-series cast - the actress and writers did a fantastic job there.
    Looking forward to DareDevil III

Definitely considerably improved on the first series, and I also think the story arc worked out a lot smoother without the occassional lengths than some of the other recent Marvel Netflix shows suffered from.
I think Davos was not neccessarily a good villain (certainly not a very deep or complex one), but it seemed it happened enough around him that it worked, and overall it helped the show that the villain was clearly defined and stayed the same for the season. Of course ,it would have been even better if he had been as interesting as, say, Cottenmouth in Luke Cage.

Agree with all of this. Davos's simplicity worked due to the complexity of everyone else - Joy, Mary Walker, the Youth Gang...etc The ending certainly demands a sequel.

I really fucking hope Danny Rand uses those two guns to off himself. Jessica Henwick is not only the better actress, but also plays the better character.

Up to episode five and it's* so much better than season one and the Defenders it's not even funny.

A (mostly) grown up and 'handling his stupid shit like an adult' Danny is refreshing.

Joy is a better sympathetic villain than Ward was in season one and Ward is a far better "terrible friend and unreliable ally" than Joy was. The reversal of that situation is nice bonus to this season.

Missing Colleen doing chopsocky with her sword. Hopefully we get some Typhoid Mary and Colleen sword fights in the second half.

    * Danny's personality, the dialogue, the fight sequences, basically everything about Danny is improved so much it's impossible to give it a "110%"... cause anything times the 0% he was in season one....

What I read a while ago was that there was some kind of shared budget for the entire Marvel TV series line-up. And Iron Fist and Defenders were the last ones, which resulted in them being done on a far more limited budget than the first ones.
This is also what lead to Netflix calling for Scott Buck - he has a shitty reputation among fans, but unlike his more liked peers in the field, he is able to produce stuff within budget* and still deliver on time.
This probably also lead to Danny's actor being not only late to the whole project, but also given very little time and opportunity to train for the role (especially the physical part).

I don't know how much of this is true, but it seems to make sense that some people aren't called in for their artistic qualities, but for being able to get something done with what they are given. I guess a bad show still has better return on investment than a show that doesn't get finished.

*) This capability is also something Christopher Nolan has, which is why he can usually avoid studio interference. He might also be a far better storyteller than Scott, but he usually also has input on the budget in the first place - and unlike others, he knows how to estimate a realistic budget.

I liked it. Danny feels more genuine, at peace, and yet his struggle with identity doesn't feel like a petulant child. I like how he and Coleen have a normal functional relationship too.

It redeemed the series quite a bit.

The last 30 seconds are mind-boggling insipid and do not give me hope for season 3/Defenders 2... but other than that this was a good season. More than worth watching.

Man, it was weird. But hell, I enjoyed it. Danny Rand's actor clearly isn't great at martial arts, so give him something else to do.

Creator of ZEITGEIST: The Gears of Revolution. Adventure ten, Godmind, now available for Pathfinder and D&D 4th edition.

Creator of War of the Burning Sky. Available for D&D 3.5 and 4th editions.

Consider the long now. You live for decades. Enjoy today, but plan as if you're going to make it to a hundred.

Just finished it. I liked it, marked improvement over season 1. Danny was a better character, the conflict between old friends and family was very cool. I did miss old crazy Meachum, and an episode with Luke Cage would have been nice. Otherwise I'm a believer in marvel Netflix again.

What are you on. It was great! In a gonzo and wild way, but bring it on! IF should bring the crazy.

Can't wait to meet the third Mary Walker.

And of course, just as I finish it and want more, the series is cancelled. But too surprised, but I wanted to see IF3 more than Luke Cage 3, at least...

It was garbage. Steamy hot garbage.

It was Danny sudden' using guns and not even able to aim at what he supposed to be shooting at. I mean if they'd at least gotten that last bit right it wouldn't have looked as stupid as I thought it was. I could have forgiven it if actually looked cool.

Of course he didn't aim. He doesn't aim the bullets with the gun, but with the Fist! Duh.

    Cancelled.
Signature too big and pornographic. Next offense will be a ban.
