And this makes discussing why it's happening and growing easier...how?

I mean, a German not wanting to talk about extremist violence on the rise is certainly consistent and should come as no surprise I suppose. If we don't look at it, it will go away on it's own? It's just a passing fad?

Actually, yes. Focusing on the behavior - giving it a greater mindshare than it deserves statistically - creates more of the behavior. Ignoring it (and for this to work in this particular case both sides have to be better here) and quietly prosecuting perpetrators will clean this up over time.

But is it really on the rise?

In Germany, we had the RAF for example. They were left-extremist terrorist that actually killed people, and committed high profile crimes for several years, enough to cause considerably change in the laws and the tools the police was allowed to use to capture them. That's when people talked a lot about this things.
The RAF had a well-devised strategy and was well organized across the country and had links to organizations and helpers outside it as well. That was something to express a growing concern and worry about, it wasn't going away on its own, and we did something about it.

Decades later, we had the NSU. They were not quite as high profile, but they managed to slip through the cracks of law enforcement until someone finally connected the dots and they were killed in pursuit. That became a high profile case after the fact, basically, because it was a travesty that our security agencies and intelligence service failed to identify them, and actually might have worked to cover up either their activities, or the agencies failure to track them down. That was something to worry about, because it showed us that our government agencies failed at their job and that people like them could roam free for so lon.

Now, we have the AFD, a right-wing party that is suddenly gaining a lot of supporters, and the civil group PEGIDA, both fighting immigration and opposing the idea of the EU, favoring nationalism over multilateral cooperation. It shows that people lost trust in a system that has kept peace in most of Europe for 60 years now, but they now no longer feel represented well. But in response, they seem to turn to an approach that has caused nothing but grief and suffering on the continent. That's a growing concern and not just a passing fad, and we need to know how to find a better solution.

But the thing is - talking about some isolated individuals or groups that mostly get stopped before they can do something serious is not something to focus on. What'S to focus on is why people assume more and more extreme positions and the political discourse in the US (and not just there) is becoming exceedingly shitty or effectively not happening, because each side only talks to itself. We don't need to know examples of where this has gone to the worst extremes and try to use this as a proof that one side is worse or better. We need to figure out how it happens, why it happens, and what we can do about it. Because in the end, you are going to have to live together in that country of yours, and not talking with each other or talking past each other will hurt everyone in the long run.

It's a nice place to live, if it weren't for the fucking people.
Madness does not always howl. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "Hey, is there room in your head for one more?"

I is before E except after C, then it's chaos man, mass chaos! Letters coming together into words, but then you go English and they put U's in places that just shouldn't go there... AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

My sanity left town along time ago and didn't leave a forwarding address. It's not missed.
