Thread: The UK has lost Free Speech

Another thing to realize: Any rule made by the EU can only be made such a rule because the majority of member states agree to it. That means the majority of the goverments in the EU would have probably instituted a similar law if left to their own devices. So anyone blaming the EU as the evil thing that forces this upon all of us - remember that your elected government is influencing the decisions of the EU, so better check if your government wasn't among the majority supporting this law.

For example, Germany did support this law. However, the junior partner in the German government actually was against it. So from my perspective - what's really broken? The EU, or the German government?
Given that law, I would guess that it's both.

Yeah I don't think leaving the EU is going to give citizens any more freedoms since one of the first things the UK Tories want to do on leaving is repeal the human rights act.

Reading on the latest Brexit news seems to indicate the UK will stay in the EU. Or that it is more likely than a year ago.

The fucking Tories have been shitting up your country too long... them and Labor. It's time for UKIP... but they'll never win.

No, it isn't an April Fool's joke. The UK has been talking about this for a long time.

Hell, it's been mentioned in this very thread.

At least our pathetic moral majority hasn't gone that far.

But then they elected Trump, soooo.
Madness does not always howl. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "Hey, is there room in your head for one more?"

I is before E except after C, then it's chaos man, mass chaos! Letters coming together into words, but then you go English and they put U's in places that just shouldn't go there... AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

My sanity left town along time ago and didn't leave a forwarding address. It's not missed.

We can but hope, but I am not that hopeful. The powers that be seem to be doing everything to avoid a second referendum.

You're saying the Tories will turn their back on another referendum without a plan? Why do you underestimate them so much?

So you were a Remainer? What about the EU was better than Britain going it's own way?

I should hope so*, pushing a second referendum is antithetical to democracy.

    * In that they uphold the the initial referendum, not that they do everything to skirt the democratic process.

I'm not sure I can agree with that statement. Asking for direct votes on a very regular basis when new information arises strikes me as a far more pure form of mob rule democracy than plowing on ahead without one.

Now I think that it's a pretty bad idea to ask for those direct votes on a frequent basis if you want a stable and sustainable democracy, but that's a different objection.

So you're okay with the government just holding vote after vote until they get the results they want?
