    So, basically:

    144 Million American Credit Info Stolen. This might be about half of the US people. (And you might have never been aware of the name, but if you have a credit card you likely used their services and they likely have their data.)
    This is not the same as the info of a single credit card being stolen, it means data including your social security number being stolen.
    The people that have access to this data can commit identify theft and open bank accounts and order credit cards in your name, and you might see your credit rating being ruined and have other, nastier effects, depending on what is done with your credit data. (Say, accounts or credit cards under your name used to finance criminal activities, for example, I suppose.)

    The video also has advice on what to do to protect yourself and what kind of legal options you might have against Equifax. I would recommend watching it or find other ways to get informed on the matter.

    Also, an unknown number of canadians are also affected. Any Canadian posters that have "dealings" or visits in the US should perhaps also watch the video.

    @Mustrum: You can't really protect yourself. Many situations in a typical American life require your credit report to be accessible. This whole affair has the capability of blowing up the whole American credit system.

    I always hoped that crooks wouldn't want to use my name as it's basically unique. Also, most Americans had difficulties pronouncing it. People with names that are very common are preferred targets.

    Nooope. I think it's gonna be an Experience. Tried to finagle the mate into getting me one of the premium tix for a Yule present, no dice on that front so far. So when I get paid on the 25th, I think I'm gonna splurge on that and get one. I need to see if I can find out a general idea of what she's doing for a set list on the tour, hopefully she'll do a few of my faves.

    I've only been to one concert where the live performance was not astoundingly, thousandfold-better than the canned stuff.
    News I bring;
    Bells the stag, winter snow
    Summer is past
    Wind high and cold
    Low the sun, short its course
    Seas run strong;
    The russet bracken its shape is lost
    Wild goose raises wanton cry
    Cold lays hold on wings of bird
    Time of ice
    This I heard.
