It's not remotely the same as losing a parent, but I lost a coworker to cancer this past weekend. I'd worked with Scott for 20 years. Time from diagnosis to death? Three weeks.

Cancer is a shit-tastic, awful thing. Sorry to hear you lost your friend/coworker.

Tomorrow is never guaranteed; it's a poignant reminder to live as fully as one can, I suppose.
    Spring spirit-dancer, nimble and thin
I will leap like Coyote when I go
Tireless entrancer, lend me your skin
I will run like the gray wolf when I go

I will climb the rise at daybreak, I will kiss the sky at noon
Raise my yearning voice at midnight to my mother in the moon
I will make the lay of long defeat and draw the chorus slow
I'll send this message down the wire
Hope that someone wise is listening
    When I go

My new job doesn't afford me much time for faffing about on the board, sadly. I'm enjoying the hell out of it, even if I feel like an utter newbie and incompetent (I'm not, but...let's say that I'm learning a lot).

News regarding my dad is less...pleasant. The cancer in his bladder is inoperable, and they found at least one lymph node that it had spread to. He's basically been told that he has somewhere between 12-18 months left. They're planning on a combined chemo/radiation treatment that's intended to improve his quality of life, but probably won't extend it.

In all honesty though, he's already done a lot of the psychological leg work, and he's long ago made peace with his morality. He'd much prefer to be around a lot longer, but he's lived a full life and doesn't have any regrets. My family's devastated, naturally, but acknowledging that every life ends is something that none of us has ever shied away from. Still, it's going to hurt when he finally goes. :/ Such is life.
This is similar to what happened to my father. They found the cancer late and it was inoperable. It was hard for me, and still hurts. I'm sorry to hear that this is happening to your father.

    Thank you.

    Thank you.
decades of smoking and my pop ended up with bladder cancer. he was lucky. they treated it with BCG (Mycobacterium bovis the vaccine version).

he can't go places without having to piss every time he walks but at least he survived.

yearly check ups for the rest of his life too.

glad to have met your Dad.

Parents are coming down to see Phantom of the Opera with us. I'm stoked. I've never seen it live, just the 2004 movie, which was great. Still, nothing beats a live performance of anything.
Madness does not always howl. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "Hey, is there room in your head for one more?"

I is before E except after C, then it's chaos man, mass chaos! Letters coming together into words, but then you go English and they put U's in places that just shouldn't go there... AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

My sanity left town along time ago and didn't leave a forwarding address. It's not missed.
