Why I supported TPP in one word.

    China.
Trump is just Putin's little bitch.

Yup. We can write the rules of trade in the Pacific, or China can. Trump wants China to write them.
We've always been at war with Eastasia.

And he made it happen by withdrawing from the TPP moments ago. China will now control all Pacific trade, and there's not a thing we can do about it any more.

I blame the left for this moronic move. It was in the grasp and the extreme left got protectionist, allowing China to be well on its way to being the major world superpower of trade.

That was already going to happen - a motivated government + a culture that values the society over the individual + 1.3+ billion people.

Continuing to feed them capital (via massive trade deficits) doesn't really help the situation.

Hence a TPP that froze them out.

Althought it is a bit symbolic as Congress did't ratify the deal, it isn't like he'll "negociate a better deal" anytime soon. It took years to negociate the TPP. He seems to actually think that importation tarifs will solve everything. Like how a giant wall will solve everything.

What makes you think this will help them? I'm fairly sure that all the evidence points to cultures that value individuality as the ones that experience real growth. China's rise is gonna be pure demographics and stability. Your "motivated government" and 1.3+ billions.

Yeah it was already dead in the water, Trump withdrawing it was basically symbolic.

    Fairly blatant neoliberal overreach
(I'm not even THAT anti-neoliberal but it was a pretty clear corporatist power grab)

And now, from the Department of You Can't Make This Shit Up, Trump officially declares his inauguration date a "National Day of Patriotic Devotion".

    Infrastructure.

China is a country that will change the course of rivers and expect the hundreds of thousands of people who will be displaced to deal with it - and they do! We haven't done anything close to that since the TVA (Norris displaced around 14K people), and it affected an order of magnitude less people.

Economic superiority requires this level of infrastructure, and China is one of the few nations with the internal power to make big projects like this happen (in large part because the populace is prone to support the group over individuals).

    Trump abandoned the TPP today.

The TPP would have saved me 16% of all our imports. That savings would have helped offset the massive increase in wages and workers compensation we're seeing from the rise in minimum wage here (which has upward pressure on all wages, even those not even close to the minimum).

Fuck you Mr. President. The impact of this, combined with the minimum wage increase, is that I have to buy MORE overseas, not less. I will have fewer employees here, not more.
