    I agree with Kzach.

    Mark the date.
Kzach says intelligent, insightful, witty things about once per month. It's why I continue to skim his posts instead of skipping straight past.

Saw's rebellion had more than a little debt to ISIS...or, more accurately, to Taliban and the Iraqi insurgency.

Do we really need to be shown why Finn doesn't just want to burn down a village?
I'm not going to debate you point for point, but come on. Original Star Wars gives very clear motivations to its core characters (and no, Chewie is not one). The droids have a mission. Luke wants to be a fighter pilot and get off the farm, and later he wants to learn about The Force and his father. Tarkin wants to snuff out the Rebellion (and ignores / overlooks the risks in order to do so).

What does Rey want to do? "Wait" is not a compelling motivation.
Finn, sure, he wants to not be a slave and a murderer. And then what?

What does Jyn Orso want to do?
    Still excited about 4th Edition!

Reunite with her father you fuckwit.

Then after he dies in her arms, absolve him in the eyes of the Rebellion and redeem him for the galaxy.

Did Kzach steal your account for the day or did you take the stupid pills this morning?
Hop on in, this rabbit hole is deep.

Get revenge. After getting laid, it's the most basic of motivations.

The troubling part is that these kinds of war films really promote suicide missions. ISIS will show that film even if it has two gay characters.
But it promotes suicide missions against military targets, not civilians on a Christmas market or attending a sports events. The kind of suicide missions that make nations great and make for good movies (kinda like this one).

I have often said that revenge stories are the most satisfying to read.

While I know you're joking, that kind of distinction doesn't exist on either side. It is just propaganda of Western powers. We kill plenty of civilians.

It does, actually. While you might kill civilians when you hit a military target, that isn't the point of the attack. I know you don't see a difference, but it's there.

    Bullshit.

The multiple hospital bombings were of well known buildings that were clearly marked as off-target. There's very, very little possibility that they weren't deliberate.

Jyn Orso's motivation is crystal clear: find her father.

Then her motivation after he dies is crystal clear also: Redeem him and exact a measure of revenge. The fact she has evolved to support the Rebellion adds another angle.

Finn's motivation in the TFA was to save his own ass. Then, as his relationships with Rey and Poe develop to support something larger and more noble than his own ass.

Rey's motivation is more complicated and incomplete at this time.
