That's fine. The Force Awakens was largely a rehash of A New Hope with a mary sue protagonist, but it was the strength of the characters that drew me in, and if they didn't appeal to you, I can see how you'd not like it.

It takes more than two decent characters to make it a good movie for me. It was how everything else in the movie (plot, pacing, scale, dialogue) were terrible that drug the movie down from "Good" past "Adequate" into "Not Good" for me.

Still a far cry better than Phantom Menace though.
Blah de blah de blah blah.

Both TFA and R1 suffer from character without clear motivations. We are *told* what they care about and what they're doing but we never *see* or *hear* why they care about it.
    Still excited about 4th Edition!

I can get behind this assessment. I still enjoyed the heck out of the movies though.

Same here. I can see lots of flaws with TFA and yet I've seen it 4 times (3 in the theater) and enjoyed it every time.

R1, I've only seen it once. I was definitely entertained for two hours. Not sure if I will see it again.

Yeah, I mean it's not like this is a shit, B-grade movie. It's a fucking good, fun, movie. It's not brilliant, life-changing, cinema, but it's a good, solid, enjoyable space opera.

If it were complete tripe, I could understand the negative reviews and bitching and whining. But it's not. So all this hand-wringing is just nitpicky shittiness in order to be the popular kid by not liking something popular.
    I agree with Kzach.

Confirmation that Mistwell clapped and cheered when random fan service appeared on screen?

Do we really need to be shown why Finn doesn't just want to burn down a village?
Why Rey wants to stay on Jakku?*
Why Poe loves flying X-Wings and being a dudebro?
Why Jyn wants to rescue her father or see Saw?
    Why K2 despises all humans?

Can't you just stretch your imagination a bit and picture it for yourself?

    For example:

We get told why Cassian is in the Rebellion and willing to do whatever is asked of him, no questions asked. Did this improve his character?
We aren't told in ANH why Han is a smuggler or shown why he drops cargo at the first hint of the Empire, does this make him lesser?
We aren't ever shown why Chewie cares for him. Is Chewie's devotion lessened?
We aren't shown why Leia's family is backing the Empire, and yet we can envision good reasons.
We can overlook all of Ben's motivations (which are not discussed in ANH), he's little more than a trope in the movie and dies fast enough that he gets no character arc.

    * It would be nice to know why she about faced as soon as she met Han and Chewie, but fuck it. By then JJ had destroyed my ability to give a crap about the movie.

No dude, not the content of the review. Did you fucking watch the review you linked to, or are you so dead inside that you were not annoyed by their intentionally annoying behavior?

Their greatest crime was they attempted to be funny and miserably failed. For that...no forgiveness.

Well that film was boring. Not terrible, but not good either. The motivational speeches were a real drag though. No one would be talking about it if it weren't for the Star Wars logo.

The troubling part is that these kinds of war films really promote suicide missions. ISIS will show that film even if it has two gay characters.

That crew stopped being funny 4 years ago.
