It's worse than that... #GG is about ethics in games journalism while journalism is about harassment of women...

It's always been about ethics in journalism...

SyFy Wire’s Dany Roth Admits to Creating Positive Reviews in Order to Maintain Access While Discussing Captain Marvel’s Rotten Tomatoes Controversy

Roth admits to how the access media works, “Here’s the actual reality. Here’s where we actually are in the industry if you want to talk about quote access media. Every single person that wants to have access to things early, that wants to get access to things so that traffic is drawn to their site will on occasion. Everybody at this podcast, everybody in our industry occasionally has to play softball, occasionally has to look the other way a little bit. Everybody has to do it. In the sense that I hated a movie, but I won’t say that I hated a movie. Or an actor behaved a sort of way, and you don’t want to put it out there that that happened.” Horne chimes in, “Right, because you might not get the next review.” Roth continues, “To some degree everybody in our industry that is part of this quote on quote access media has to decide which battles they want to pick. Which of the ones where my voice is the one that has to get said.”
Over-under on how long before the SJW left claims Dany Roth is an alt-right plant trying to discredit critics?

And released a week early; I was surprised when I saw showtimes available on Friday. Immediate plans for after work were made.

Edit: I just saw newslines of 6 and 7 hours ago from different sites claiming that Captain Marvel had "biggest opening ever for female-fronted film" and "year's best opening weekend at the box office." I guess all the incels that are pissed off at the film's existence will just have to go home, sob into their tendies and LDAR.

I'm waiting to see how it does on the long tail. Let's see how many repeat viewings it gets, and how well it does in the next few weeks.

Okay. And? It's part of the MCU, did you expect it to do poorly?

Now, if it had beaten out Infinity War, that'd be something to crow about.

Or... they just don't give a shit? You did realize all that nonsense was drummed up by the studio to get 'progressive' butts in seats right?

I mean, just like how it's the "biggest opening" female led film to date... Hell, if you just take the US and Canadian numbers, Rogue One beats it (but RO did not do so very well in China).

It's only the biggest opening if you look at worldwide figures and you don't count "The Force Awakens" as a female fronted movie.

I hadn't thought of the coincidence, no. But initially our theatres had given the opening date of this coming Friday.

I certainly didn't, but apparently at least a rather vocal minority did.

Maybe not apples and oranges there, but apples and quinces at least. Captain Marvel is the story about mainly a single person. Infinity War is a Big Story about intergalactic, all-out war with what appears to be basically every superhero in the MCU somehow involved. I certainly don't consider them to be capable of running on the same track.

Ehh...I don't know about that. Seems like there's a good bit of manosphere/incel types that have their knickers in a twist about both the movie and some out-of-context remarks from Larson and some higher-up(s) in production. Even though I don't typically pay attention to mayfly bullshit like that, it's still run across my awareness, so my guess is it's more prevalent and more genuine than some publicity stunt.

While it was the first film that such a tremendous number voted "Do Not Want To See", it's not the first time a film had a terrible pre-release rating on RT. The SJW journo crowd just went apeshit over it this time because of Brie Larson's completely in context Intersectional Feminism comments. This group of political activist media types want to shape culture and politics and push hard.

Seems like there's a good bit of manosphere/incel types that have their knickers in a twist about both the movie...
I ghost that crowd to just to keep an eye on what they're up to and they couldn't have cared less about it being a female front movie until Brie started in with her Intersectional Feminism. Just like with Fury Road, they didn't give a shit until the movie started being propped up as "Wamen Empowerment!!11!" and "the movie to end the MRA movement!!1111!".

I mean, do you seriously expect that the same group that helped make the Alien and Tomb Raider franchises huge successes hate "strong female characters"? No... they just hate when it looks Fourth Wave/Intersectional Feminism is being jammed into 'their' movies.

Just like you'd lose your shit if the next season of TWD or GoT was to feature and promote anti-vaxxing.

...and some out-of-context remarks from Larson and some higher-up(s) in production.
They were completely incontext. They were clumsy and deliberate, and based on her past comments, no I don't believe her restatement is what she meant. I do believe her agent took her aside for a coaching moment and beat some sense into her (the "at least pretend you don't hate white men so you can keep acting in movies and indoctrinate the next generation" type of sense).

Even though I don't typically pay attention to mayfly bullshit like that...
Grrrrl, I soak in that bullshit on both sides. Which is why I saw all this coming ten years ago.

Watched Captain Marvel. Not sure where anyone can see that much feminism? There's a couple token scenes where they tell us that being a woman pilot in 1989 is tough; it's, what, 30 seconds maybe? It's also functional to the plot (it's why she's doing test piloting instead of missions). Or is it because they changed the sex of Mar-Vell? Nevermind that it's a minor character, but I thought about it, and I think it actually works better; if they hadn't changed it, then they'd have to waste time showing me that their relationship is not romantic, while this way it's just not an issue.

Apart from that, all of the "empowering" scenes, the standing up and whatnot, are exactly the same as what male leads normally do. I guess that for some people, making an action movie with a female lead is enough? I mean, I've seen plenty of movies where they actively try to convince me that having a Y chromosome is a problem, and Captain Marvel isn't one of them.
You say that I am testing the gods' patience? Oh... I'd rather call myself an experimental theologian.

The critique about anti-male agenda or feminazism was always directed at a fictional construct of what the movie was going to be, instead of what the actual movie was. One can speculate that it's part of the marketing strategy, or the fight between social justice warriors and alt-right incel elements or whatever, but in the end, it was just something to pass the time while we wait for the actual movie, and to increase the click and impression counters of websites and youtubers.

Yup, that's enough for some people to label something a feminist movie and a "first' of it's kind. As though there haven't been other female lead action flicks in the past...

Actually, it was directed at Brie Larson's anti-white male comments that took place outside the movie and a general distaste over the "pro-feminist" hyping the movie was receiving, ala "first female superhero movie" as though Wonder Woman never happened.

I like your strawmen. Cap Marvel is the first female lead for a film... in the MCU.

Can you quote Larson's exact anti white male blurb to show us all your dishonesty.
