| Whatever Happened to the World of Tomorrow? |
Comics Worth Reading:Brian Fies wrote and drew Mom’s Cancer, one of my Best Graphic Novels of 2006, so I was greatly anticipating his followup, especially once I heard that he was tackling the question of technological progress.
Unfortunately, while I appreciated all the themes and concepts of Whatever Happened to the World of Tomorrow?, together, they didn’t gel the way I hoped. I was left thinking that I might have enjoyed the material more as an essay than a graphic novel.

| Remender Ends the "End League" |
The ninth and final issue of Rick Remender's "The End League" is in stores now from Dark Horse, featuring art by Andy MacDonald and Mat Wilson and revealing the final fate of a world overrun by supervillains while being threatened by a death god from beyond. The first eight issues found Earth's remaining heroes, most notably Soldier American and Codename Black, preparing for their last stand by searching for Thor's mighty hammer, which could bestow a pure altruistic soul with the power to save the world. But Black's arch-nemesis, the Smiling Man, grasped the hammer first, at which time his true identity as Loki was revealed. Coupled with devastating revelations about the fallen hero, Astonishman, the last glimmer of hope might finally have been extinguished. CBR News spoke with Remender about wrapping up the series.

CBR News: It's been eight months since readers saw a new issue of Eric Powell's award-winning Dark Horse series "The Goon" on the stands, but that doesn't mean the title's creator has been anything but active. Over the course of the summer, Powell celebrated 10 years of his hard-living, no-nonsense, zombie-stompin' touch guy and his comically horrific world, launched a crossover with Adult Swim superstars Dethklok, and wrapped a draft of a "Goon" screenplay for director David Fincher.

| The end of history: An interview with Larry Gonick |
CBR News/Robot 6:For the past 30 or so years, Larry Gonick has been engaged in what has to easily be one of the most ambitious comics projects ever: The Cartoon History of the Universe. In four volumes (including Vol. 1 of The Cartoon History of the Modern World), Gonick has relentlessly relayed the history of planet Earth as we know it, from the big bang up to the the 1700s. That he's done so in such a consistently entertaining and downright funny fashion, is nothing short of remarkable, especially considering the plethora of dull, insipid nonfiction comics that have come out in the past few years.
Now, with the publication of the second volume of Cartoon History of the Modern World he's finally finished his magmum opus. I used the occasion as an opportunity to talk with Gonick over email about his new book -- which runs from the French Revolution to 9/11 -- and how it feels to finally be finished something that took up such a large chunk of his working life. Here's what he had to say:

| Larsen Declares "War" on "Savage Dragon" |
On the TV series "Fringe," there's a rule of thumb that "there's more than one of everything." Such is certainly the case in "Dragon War," writer-artist Erik Larsen's latest "Savage Dragon" arc kicking off in issue #155 of the long-running Image Comics series. From an army of Dragons created by Dragon's own blood to the reintroduction of the Dragon from Darkworld, Larsen's latest story has no shortage of green-skinned threats - but all of them could pale in comparison to the potential danger of the newly resurrected Dragon himself, who lacks even a single memory from his previous heroic life.
Larsen spoke with CBR News about the upcoming story, how it could affect "Savage Dragon" going forward and the inclusion of a legendary illustrator as one of the cover artists for issue #156.

| November 24th DVD Round-Up |
ICv2:This week’s holiday season blockbuster release is Angels and Demons (Sony, $28.96, 2-Disk $36.95, BD $39.95), the second major production based on the conspiratorial hokum of novelist Dan Brown. Excellent talent both behind the camera (director Ron Howard, writers Akiva Goldsman & David Koepp, and cinematographer Salvatore Totino) and in front of it (Tom Hanks, Ewan McGregor, Stellan Skarsgard, and The Eternal City) can’t save Brown’s illuminati saga from itself, but this film can be sort of fun if taken with a barrel full of salt. Interestingly this second adventure of Harvard “Symbologist” Robert Langdon earned more than two-and-one-half times as much ($352.5 million) overseas as it did domestically ($133.3million).

| Trapped in his own body for 23 years - the coma victim who screamed unheard |
Guardian.co.uk:For 23 years Rom Houben was imprisoned in his own body. He saw his doctors and nurses as they visited him during their daily rounds; he listened to the conversations of his carers; he heard his mother deliver the news to him that his father had died. But he could do nothing. He was unable to communicate with his doctors or family. He could not move his head or weep, he could only listen.
Doctors presumed he was in a vegetative state following a near-fatal car crash in 1983. They believed he could feel nothing and hear nothing. For 23 years.

It calls for a major re-configuration of the vehicle's two power units, with a Eurofighter jet engine now being positioned above a hybrid rocket.
The car, known as Bloodhound, will be built in Bristol's docklands.
The team expects to start running the vehicle on the Hakskeen Pan, Northern Cape Province, South Africa, in 2011.
